This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

A student may be entitled to gain unit of competency credits or recognition, if what they have learned at work, from other programs, courses,from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to the course. SCEI recognises the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations.

Domestic Students

To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at Certificate III level, this can be demonstrated via the following:

Successful completion of Year 10 or the equivalent level of study or mature aged entry

Successful completion of Southern Cross EducationInstitute’s Language,Literacy and Numeracy indicator

Candidates must be aged 18 or older

Moderate level of computer literacy required

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 160 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency

Additional Requirements

Learners must have following before commencing industry work placement:

Commonwealth of Australia Statutory Declaration

International Students

To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at Certificate III level, this can be demonstrated via the following:

Successful completion of year 11 or equivalent level of study or mature aged entry

Minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent


Candidates originating from student visa assessment levels 1 and 2 without the required IELTS score can undertake Language, Literacy and Numeracy Indicator Test. For information on student visa assessment levels, refer to Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) website (http://www.border.gov.au)

18 years of age or over
