This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They support children’s wellbeing, and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators use a range of welldeveloped skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under the guidance of others, though in some contexts that guidance may not be on-site. Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergarten

INTAKE DATES

To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at a certificate III level, this can be demonstrated via the following:

  • Participate in a Pre-training Review (PTR)
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment to determine suitability for admission and identify support needs
  • Be physically fit, enjoy being with children, have patience, understanding, energy, adaptability and a willingness to take responsibility

Additional requirements upon course commencement / prior to industry work placement:

  • A National Police Check (NPC)
  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Vaccinations which can include COVID, hepatitis A and B, and influenza
  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires
  • Hold or undertake (SA ONLY):
    • Disability services employment screening
    • Vulnerable person-related employment screening

  • Aged 18 years or above, and
  • Must have completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum English level of IELTS 6.0* or equivalent. Candidates originating from student visa assessment levels 1 and 2 without the required IELTS score can undertake Language, Literacy and Numeracy Indicator Test (against the ACSF).For information on student visa assessment levels, refer to Department of Home Affairs website https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au
  •  Moderate level of computer literacy required
  • Evidence of full COVID-19 immunisation with the TGA approved vaccine
  • Be physically fit, enjoy being with children, have patience, understanding, energy, adaptability and a willingness to take responsibility

Note: If a student has a Disclosable Court Outcome registered against their name, we are unable to assist with placement as an industry will not accept students without a clear record. This requirement is not negotiable. Please note, in Victoria, this includes any offence that may have occurred up to 10 years ago and will show offences that state they are “without conviction”.

Further study pathways

After achieving this Certificate III qualification, individuals may continue their studies in CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
